Though you might think Instagram is simply about pretty pictures, like the beautiful bunches of onions above from our Instagram account (follow us!), the social media platform is very dynamic and is used in a variety of different ways. We took some time to compile a list of 10 food-centric Instagrammers that we think make a positive impact in the food system through their work:

Modern Farmer (@modfarm)

Modern Farmer is a leading source for those interested in all facets of the food system, though they particularly focus on farming and agriculture. We love their Instagram account not only for their scenic photographs of farmlands, but their Instagram takeovers which feature farmers from all corners of our country. We think it’s incredibly valuable to be able to observe the daily life of a farmer, and that this sort of media work will close the gap between urban dwellers and rural inhabitants. For this, we applaud them! Check out their profile here.

It is an equally great source for planning ahead for what vendors are at the market, when new seasonal produce has arrived, and what recipes you can whip up from your market yield. Did we mention the photographs are absolutely stunning? See for yourself here!
